Nyonya Pongteh Chicken

Another Baba Nyonya traditional dish is 'Ayam Pongteh' or also known as Pongteh Chicken. This recipe is something that you rarely have in other country like Kuala Lumpur or anywhere else. it is one of the traditional dish from Baba Nyonya's culture.

If you look at the picture above, it look like a normal dish that you can have anywhere. However, the taste of the chicken is not the same. You can feel the tender and softness of the chicken and the sweetness of the sauce that made from spice and herbs. Chicken Pongteh, generally a chicken stew cooked with taucu, potatoes and shiitake mushrooms.

Yummy Nyonya Laksa!


Melaka is very popular country with it harmonious multiracial and multicultural community. all of them live together over centuries ago with harmony and respects towards each other culture, religious and also their traditions. One of the unique community in Melaka is the Baba Nyonya.

What is the different between Nyonya Laksa, Penang Laksa & Sarawak Laksa? Well, nyonya laksa is a traditional dish that comes from melacca. Nyonya Laksa is a bit creamy and rich with coconut gravy yet, it  rich with taste. It is a unique mix of Chinese and Malay flavours combine to form a glorious Peranakan Laksa that filled with fresh herbs and ingredients to make it taste really good.

This Nyonya Laksa, laced with the right amount of local noodles, shredded bunga kantan buds, seafood,  other seasonal secret ingredients and spices, this  bowl of artery blocking, mouth watering, eye smarting concoction is a blessing for all those who crave spicy Asian fast food.

Kuih Buah Melaka @ Onde-onde

If you go to Melacca, you must try their traditional dish which called "Kuih buah melaka" it also known as "Onde-onde". Onde-onde is a small round green steamed ball stuffed with palm sugar and covered by shredded coconut. If you craving for something good and taste nice, try this awesome food because it taste really good and once you eat it, it will melt in your mouth with all the sweetness.

Here are the ingredients need in order to make this awesome dish. Enjoy!

500g glutinous rice flour (you can also use boiled mash sweet potatoes - 3 parts of sweet potatoes to 1 part of glutinous rice flour)

1  1/4 cup pandan juice (blend some pandan leaves or screw pine leaves with a little water, squeeze the  juice out. Add more juice as needed.)
1 1/2 tubes of Gula Melaka, chopped into small pieces
2 coconuts - grated coarsely without skin and mixed with a pinch of salt.


Even though there are not much ingredients needed but onde-onde is rich in flavors.
If you don't know what to eat during the evening, try to have this dish with hot tea or coffee. I'm sure you will love it.
